Please see our Fundraising Page for details of The Chairman's 2019 fundraising challenge:
2019 Challenge - starting 27 April - The Coast and Castles (North) route, 200 miles from Edinburgh to Aberdeen

John Banner
John Banner was a Hotel and Catering lecturer at Southfields College (which is now Leicester College) and a Fellow of what was then the HCIMA. He left his legacy to the East Midlands to support the development and enrichment of students pursuing careers in the hotel and catering industry.
The Hospitality Industry accounts for 1 in 14 of all UK jobs i.e. approx 2 million jobs.
The public sector austerity measures will impact heavily on students enrolling on Hotel &Catering educational and training programmes over the next 2-3 years. Cuts in the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA), and Adult Funding and Entitlement will mean that the support of the John Banner Scholarship Fund will become fundamentally important to enable students to complete their studies and fulfil their career ambitions.
Here are a few practical examples of ways in which the fund aims to help students, e.g.:
  • Support with student learning resources
  • Help with specific one off requests e.g specialist kit or equipment for individual students
  • Financial Assistance towards educational visits and industrial placements to aid gaining valuable experience,
  • Awards and trophies for students who show promise and determination in the face of difficulties
  • Financial support for competition work- World Skills, Olympia etc
The John Banner Scholarship Fund is a registered charity that strives for the:
